Joe Montana and his wife, Jennifer, had the scare of a lifetime Saturday night.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed Sunday that a woman entered the home the 49ers legend and Jennifer are staying at in Malibu Saturday night and attempted to kidnap the Montana's 9-month-old granddaughter.

TMZ Sports was first to report the news.

The woman, identified as Sodsai Dalzell, entered the home and grabbed the child out of her playpen while she was sleeping. Jennifer first asked for the child back, but then pried the child out of Dalzell's arms, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press.

The woman ran outside of the house, and TMZ Sports reported L.A. County Sheriff's deputies already were on the same block dealing with an unrelated matter. Someone inside the Montana's home flagged down the deputies, told them what happened and the intruder was found a few blocks away.

Dalzell was booked on kidnapping and burglary charges. The sheriff's office declined to release any more information, as the case still is ongoing.

Montana, who won four Super Bowl titles with the 49ers, tweeted a statement regarding the situation on Sunday.

Joe and Jennifer Montana have four children: Daughters Elizabeth and Alexandra, and sons Nate and Nick. It's unclear at this time who is the parent of the granddaughter that the Montanas saved.
