49ers dominate Redskins on Monday night
A familiar connection
Late in the first quarter, Colin Kaepernick threw a 19-yard touchdown strike to Anquan Boldin, giving the 49ers their first lead of the game, 7-0.
Whitner intercepts, Dawson extends the lead
After a Donte Whitner interception, the 49ers put together a 47-yard drive that ended in a Phil Dawson 29-yard field goal and included a 40-yard pass to Vernon Davis.
'Skins strike back
Washington then answered with a 13-play, 64-yard drive capped off by a 36-yard field goal from Kai Forbath.
Lead shrinks again
After stopping the 49ers, Washington mounted another drive that stalled in 49ers territory. Another Forbath field goal as the half ended brought the score to 10-6.
Colin Kaepernick hooked up with Anquan Boldin for a second score, this time a 6-yard pass that extended the lead to 17-6.
Kap on fire
As the third quarter neared a close, Colin Kaepernick tossed his third touchdown of the night, a one-yard score to Vernon Davis.
An insurmountable lead
The 49ers added another Phil Dawson field goal -- a 49-yarder -- to bring the game to 27-6, a score that remained until time expired.
In the thick of it
With the comfortable win, the 49ers improved to 7-4, and hold the 6th seed for the time being. They will be engaged in a tight struggle for the final wild-card spots over the remaining weeks.
