49ers one of three favorites to land No. 1 overall draft pick

It's been a tumultuous season for Jim Tomsula and the San Francisco 49ers, as they've fielded the league's worst offense en route to a bottom-dwelling 2-6 record through the first half of the season.

They've suffered a litany of injuries, including a stress fracture to the foot of running back Carlos Hyde, and recently benched $100 million quarterback Colin Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert.

And a tough road lies ahead.

They face the Falcons (6-2), Seahawks (4-4), Cardinals (6-2), Bears (2-5), Browns (2-6), Bengals (7-0), Lions (1-7) and Rams (4-3) to finish the season.

The opponents remaining on the schedule have a combined record of 32-29.

The 49ers are currently one of three teams—along with the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns—projected to finish with the league's worst record, and thus the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Lions, Browns and Bears, who are all pegged to finish near the bottom, are on the 49ers' remaining schedule. However, the games against Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago are all on the road.
