49ers-Seattle inactives: Williams starts for Goldson

SAN FRANCISCO -- Veteran Madieu Williams will start at 49ers free safety for Dashon Goldson, who has been out for more than a week with knee soreness.Goldson was one of the seven players the 49ers, and all NFL teams, are required to make inactive 90 minutes prior to kickoff. Each NFL team is limited to 46 players in uniform.Williams gets the start at free safety for today's 49ers-Seahawks season opener over Reggie Smith, who returned to practice this week after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Aug. 8.The 49ers' full list of inactive players is as follows: quarterback Scott Tolzien, receiver Kyle Williams, Goldson, rookie offensive linemen Daniel Kilgore and Mike Person, and rookie defensive linemen Ian Williams and Demarcus Dobbs.The 49ers' backup offensive linemen are Adam Snyder and Alex Boone, and their backup defensive linemen are Ricky Jean Francois and Will Tukuafu.For the Seahawks, receiver Sidney Rice (shoulder) headlines the list of inactives. Ben Obomanu will start in place of Rice.Also, left guard Robert Gallery (knee) is inactive, which means the Seahawks will do some shuffling on the offensive line. Rookie James Carpenter takes over at left guard for Gallery, and Breno Giacomini wills start at right tackle.Here is the Seahawks' full list of inactive players: Rice, Gallery, quarterback Josh Portis, receiver Kris Durham, linebacker David Hawthorne (knee), tackle Jarriel King and defensive tackle Al Woods.Rookie K.J. Wright will start at middle linebacker for Hawthorne.
