49ers sign former Pro Bowler Leonard Davis

SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers signed former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Leonard Davis to a one-year contract Thursday, the team announced.Davis replaces undrafted free agent David Gonzales on the team's 90-man roster. Davis, who underwent offseason foot surgery, visited the 49ers in March.Davis is an 11-year veteran who did not play any games last season after signing with the Detroit Lions midway through the season.Davis (6-6, 355) was the No. 2 overall pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2001. He played his first six seasons with the Cardinals before moving to the Dallas Cowboys for four years. The Cowboys parted ways with him after the lockout. He is a three-time Pro Bowl selection.Davis becomes a factor in the competition at right guard, where Alex Boone took all of the first-team snaps during the offseason program.
