Alex Smith, three DBs limited at 49ers practice

SANTA CLARA -- Quarterback Alex Smith was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, according to the team's official report that was submitted to the NFL.Smith was listed as a limited each day last week, too, before he was ultimately declared inactive for the 49ers' game Monday night against the Chicago Bears.Coach Jim Harbaugh announced no decision Wednesday whether Smith or Colin Kaepernick would start for the 49ers on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. While Smith has been cleared to practice, there is no guarantee he'll receive final clearance to play in the game.Three of the 49ers top five defensive backs were listed as limited participants Wednesday due to injuries: safety Dashon Goldson (ribs and calf), and cornerbacks Tarell Brown (knee) and Chris Culliver (shoulder).Brown and Goldson were new additions to the 49ers' practice report.
