Colts sign Palmer off 49ers practice squad

Instead of spending his week in Youngstown, Ohio, as part of the 49ers practice squad, wide receiver Nathan Palmer will be heading to Indianapolis.Palmer, an undrafted rookie from Northern Illinois, signed Monday with the Indianapolis Colts. He confirmed the news on Twitter. He thanked the 49ers for giving him an opportunity.
The Colts are in need of help at wide receiver after Austin Collie appeared to sustain a serious knee injury Sunday. Teams are allowed to sign players to their own 53-man roster off another club's practice squad at any time.
Palmer was among the 49ers' final cuts of training camp. He caught six passes for 93 yards during the exhibition season. The 49ers signed him to their original eight-player practice squad over Chris Owusu and Brian Tyms.Owusu went to the San Diego Chargers' practice squad before signing on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 53-man roster.The 49ers will practice and train at Youngstown State in preparation of their game Sunday against the New York Jets.
