SANTA CLARA -- Receiver Braylon Edwards figures to be back in uniform for the 49ers on Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks.Edwards has been inactive two of the past three weeks. He spent one week rehabbing knee and shoulder ailments. On Monday, the 49ers chose to deactivate him for the game based on the other receivers having better practices and games, coach Jim Harbaugh said.
He is likely to get some playing time this weekend with receiver Ted Ginn hobbled with an ankle sprain."Based on one practice, yesterday, looked good," Harbaugh said of Edwards.Edwards is hoping to come on strong at the end of the season and make an impact in the playoffs. He will be looking for a multi-year contract at the end of the season.RELATED: Braylon Edwards 2011 game logs
When asked if he considers Edwards a long-term solution for the 49ers, Harbaugh answered, "We'll see."Edwards, Ginn and Joshua Morgan, who is on injured reserve, are among the 49ers' scheduled free agents at the end of the season. Unlike Ginn and Morgan, Edwards has yet to demonstrate how he can fit into the team's future.
Edwards has just 14 receptions for 172 yards and no touchdowns in eight games. But Harbaugh said he is not concerned that Edwards will not be able to make a contribution this season."No, I'm not worried," Harbaugh said. "Braylon is practicing, competing and, like everything, you evaluate that and give it your best shot and you either do or you don't."
