Ex-49er Ricky Watters sues NFL over concussions

Former 49ers running back Ricky Watters has become the latestex-NFL player to file a lawsuit against the league over concussions.Watterss suit, filed with former Washington Redskinslineman Joe Jacoby in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District ofPennsylvania, alleges Jacoby sustained repeated traumatic impacts to his headandor concussions on multiple occasions, according to the Washington Times.Watters is the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit.In three seasons with the 49ers, Watters accumulated 2840yards rushing and 1450 yards receiving along with 33 touchdowns. Watters helpedlead the 49ers to a 49-26 victory in Super Bowl XXIX, rushing for 47 yards anda touchdown and catching three passes for 62 yards and two more scores.The five-time Pro Bowlers best season in San Francisco came in 1994 when he ran for877 yards and six touchdowns and racked up 719 receiving yards and five scores.Watters is now among the 2,990 former players involved in119 lawsuits seeking damages for concussions and other brain injuries sufferedwhile player in the NFL, according to the Washington Times.The NFL has maintained that all such lawsuits are baseless.Watters joins at least Johnnie Morton, Dexter Carter, JohnBrodie, Wayne Radloff, Terry Beasley, Garrison Hearst and George Visger amongformer 49ers players to sue the NFL in concussion-related lawsuits.
