Eli Harold attended Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He played defensive end and was an ESPNU Top 150 prospect in the 2012 class. Yahoo! Rivals ranked him the No. 1 overall player in Virginia and Harold played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl after his illustrious high-school career.
Harold appeared in all 12 games for Viriginia in his freshman year and was fourth on the team recording seven tackles for loss. He finished the season with 36 total tackles, two sacks, one interception and a forced fumble.
Harold showed improvement in both his sophomore and junior seasons. In his second year at Virginia, Harold recorded 51 tackles, forced two fumbles and led the Cavaliers with 8.5 sacks. He started all 12 games and was fifth in the ACC with 15 tackles for loss. In his final season, Harold had 54 tackles, seven sacks, forced one fumble and had one interception. He was third in the ACC with 14.5 tackles for loss. Harold was named second-team All-ACC.
With the 79th overall pick in the third round, the 49ers selected Eli Harold.
