The file on Eric Reid
LSU will miss Eric Reid
A record-breaking 10 underclassmen left LSU following the 2012 season, all hoping to be selected in the 2013 NFL Draft. None will be as sorely missed as Reid, who was the glue of head coach Les Miles' secondary unit.
Reid was a first-team All-American selection by The NFL Draft Report, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association, ESPN and Scout.com.
Reid's Combine Stats: 4.53 in the 40-yard dash…1.53 10-yard dash…2.55 20-yard dash…4.22 20-yard shuttle…6.99 three-cone drill…40 ½-inch vertical jump…11’2” broad jump…Bench pressed 225 pounds 17 times…33 ½-inch arm length…10-inch hands…77-inch wingspan.
49ers get their guy
The 49ers were slated to select 31st overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, but they traded the pick and a third round selection to the Cowboys to move up to No. 18 overall and select Reid.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers introduced Reid during a press conference at the team's headquarters in Santa Clara on April 26.
Starter from Day 1
Eric Reid earned the starting safety position in the preseason. In Week 1, a 34-28 win against the Green Bay Packers, Reid recorded seven tackles and an interception. Following the win, Jim Harbaugh said, "I have no doubt he belongs and he's going to get better and better as we go.”
Concussion No. 1
Reid became the first 49ers rookie in club history to record interceptions in his first two games. But late in the second quarter of San Francisco's Week 2 loss to Seattle, he sustained a concussion after a vicious hit on Sidney Rice.
Concussion No. 2
Reid suffered his second concussion of the season in the 49ers' Week 10 loss to Carolina. A few days later, he said, "Guys are a little bit stronger and little bit bigger than what I’m used to playing, so I might have to adjust the way I play a little bit."
The 49ers lost to the Seahawks in the NFC title game and as a result, Reid was named as Seattle safety Kam Chancellor's Pro Bowl alternate.
