Kenneth Acker was a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com out of Grant High School in Oregon. He committed to Southern Methodist University. Acker returned 13 kicks for 315 yards as a freshman. He started all 13 games at corner in 2011 with 63 tackles. Acker had three interceptions, 15 pass deflections, and was named a second-team All-Conference USA for the Mustangs during his junior season. Acker started all 12 games his senior season and was seventh on the team with 46 tackles. He added a team-high three interceptions and 13 pass breakups.
Acker left Southern Methodist a two-time second-team all-conference player. In his final two seasons he had six interceptions and 28 pass deflections. Acker (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.50 seconds and posted a 36-inch vertical at his Pro Day. The San Francisco 49ers selected Acker with the fourth pick in the sixth round (No. 180 overall).
