The file on Marcus Martin
Marcus Martin grew up in Los Angeles, California where he attended Crenshaw High School. He was elected as an All-L.A. City Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior and signed to the University of Southern California as a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.com.
Martin cracked the lineup as a freshman in 2011, starting the Trojans' last 10 games at left offensive guard. He made numerous Freshman All-American teams. Martin appeared in 12 games (starting 10) at left guard in 2012 before transitioning to center as a junior. He started all 13 games played, but dislocated his left kneecap and had a high left ankle sprain in the regular season finale against rival UCLA. He subsequently missed the bowl game against Fresno State.
Martin couldn't work out at the combine because of his knee injury, but did bench 225 pounds 23 times. He was hailed as one of the top centers in the draft. He measured in at 6-foot-3, 320 pounds with 34-inch arms and 10-inch hands. On May 9, 2014, the San Francisco 49ers selected him with the No. 6 pick in the third round (No. 70 overall).
