SANTA CLARA -- Safety Dashon Goldson continued to be listed as the 49ers' starting free safety on the teams official depth chart even when he was unable to play.On Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Goldson expects to resume that role.Goldson will be active for the first time this season and expects to replace veteran
Madieu Williams in the 49ers' lineup.
"I'm expecting to start," said Goldson, whose streak of 32 consecutive starts for the 49ers ended when a knee injury forced him out of action for the season opener Sept. 11 against Seattle. Goldson did not play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, either."I can't say what I can add, but I know what I can do as a football player," Goldson said. "I'm another guy out there that can get guys lined up and get to the ball and make things happen. These guys are playing good football, so I can't say I can go out there and make a tremendous difference, but I can be another force on the defense."Goldson will be patrolling the secondary, keeping his eye on quarterback Andy Dalton. The Bengals' rookie has gotten off to a strong start on the season with three touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 105.7. Goldson said he believes the secondary might have some chances to make plays."You always like to think you can go into a ball game and get turnovers," Goldson said. "We saw a couple plays where he forced the ball. We got to capitalize on a lot of those things and tighten up from what we learned last week and take it into this ball game."
