Goldson: ‘I'll still be a 49er'

Safety Dashon Goldson, the 49ers' franchise player, has lived a solitary life this offseason as his teammates gathered regularly for workouts at the team's Santa Clara practice facility."It's been kind of lonely," Goldson said Tuesday in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio's "Late Hits.""I'd love to be there with my teammates, without a doubt. Unfortunately I'm on the business side of things (right now). It's just one of those things. But I'm feeling good."Instead of being under the direction of 49ers strength and conditioning coach Mark Uyeyama and his staff, Goldson said he has taken the opportunity to work with a number of different trainers throughout the country."I'm at a stage where I've been in the league going on six years now and I've been training for a while," Goldson said. "So it's good to go and bounce around and see what other trainers have.""I'm in a position where I want to accomplish a lot. Just be there and be that guy for my team. And I haven't been there all offseason so I'm sure they're working hard and I got to do the same thing."Goldson tied cornerback Carlos Rogers for the 49ers lead with six interceptions last season. Goldson earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl.
Goldson is set to earn 6.212 million for the 2012 season as the 49ers' franchise player. He and the 49ers have until Monday to work out a multi-year contract extension. If the sides fail to reach a long-term deal, Goldson can only sign the one-year deal with the 49ers. Then, they would not be able to negotiate a contract extension until after the final regular-season game.REWIND: 49ers use franchise tag on Dashon Goldson
"Any guy would love a long-term, six years," Goldson said. "I played on a one-year (contract) last year after a four-year deal. One year is not what any football player wants because we all know what we put our bodies through and what we do for our football teams and stuff like that."But it's all good. . . . I just hope something will get done. And if not, I'll still be a 49er."
