Hyde returns to 49ers' practice field

SANTA CLARA – Running back Carlos Hyde was on the field for the start of 49ers practice on Tuesday morning.

Hyde, who missed the 49ers’ game before the bye week with a shoulder injury, wore a blue jersey to signify that he is off-limits for physical contact.

Hyde sustained the injury in the 49ers’ Oct. 16 loss to the Buffalo Bills. His right arm remained in a sling and he did not practice the following week. It is too early to tell whether Hyde will be available to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints at Levi’s Stadium.

While Hyde was inactive for the game, Mike Davis started at running back but gained just 21 yards on seven rushing attempts in the 49ers' 34-17 loss to Tampa Bay. DuJuan Harris was promoted from the practice squad the day before the game and rushed for 39 yards on 11 carries.

“Based off what he did the previous game, he’s earned more opportunities,” 49ers offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins said of Harris.

Hyde leads the 49ers in rushing with 429 yards and six touchdowns on 109 attempts (3.9-yard average).
