ST. LOUIS -- Top draft pick A.J. Jenkins will be active for the second time this season, while LaMichael James still has yet to convince the coaching staff he is among the 49ers' top 46 players.Jenkins will take a spot on the 49ers' game-day roster after wide receiver Kyle Williams was lost for the season with a knee injury. However, James will not suit up for the 49ers' game against the St. Louis Rams even after running back Kendall Hunter's season-ending Achilles injury.Veteran Brandon Jacobs is expected to be the backup running back behind Frank Gore. Randy Moss and Jenkins could see action in the 49ers' three-receiver formations. Jenkins suited up for the 49ers' season opener at Green Bay but did not play. He will be active Sunday for the first time since the first game.
Reserve cornerback Perrish Cox will be the 49ers' backup to Ted Ginn on kickoff and punt returns. The 49ers will play without Demarcus Dobbs, who was arrested early Friday morning on possession of marijuana and suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the California Highway Police said.Newly activated Michael Wilhoite, a first-year linebacker from Washburn University, will make his NFL debut. For the Rams, receiver Danny Amendola is inactive.
