Jimmy Garoppolo watches 49ers practice with no crutches needed for ACL

SANTA CLARA — 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said after his ACL surgery that one of the toughest parts about recovery, was walking around with crutches.

In the team’s second practice in preparation for their Week 12 match up against the Buccaneers, Garoppolo stood, crutch-free on the sidelines watching his teammates go through drills in the light drizzle.

Garoppolo and fellow 49ers ACL rehabber Jerick McKinnon will still likely watch games from the coaches booths or owners suites for fear of further injury. For now, at least, they are allowed to watch individual drills and practice while on the field.

Shanahan has confirmed that both Garoppolo and McKinnon have regularly been around the facility, in meeting rooms and participating in film study.

Garoppolo had surgery in early October and is expected to return for the 2019 offseason program.
