SANTA CLARA -- After being placed on injured reserve in each of the past three seasons, Jordan Reed finally seems to have found health and happiness with the 49ers.
Reed started his NFL tenure in Washington as a rookie in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. After battling several injuries, including sitting out the entire 2019 season, Reed revealed his future in Santa Clara almost didn’t come to fruition.
“I definitely thought about hanging it up after last season,” Reed. “It was when I saw the Super Bowl that really kind of ignited me again. I want to play in the big games again. God blessed me to be here and a part of this great team. He gave me the opportunity to be in this situation.”

Reed believes his mental shift is a result of his work environment. Familiar faces have helped him adjust, but he says professionalism at 49ers headquarters has also played a role.
The 49ers have been easing Reed back into the fold gradually, but with position mate George Kittle sidelined with hamstring tightness, Reed has seen an increase in reps. He quickly has become more involved in the offense and built chemistry with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Like former Washington teammate Trent Williams, Reed noticed a different vibe when he walked into the building. Not only is he healthier, but he is happier and has a renewed sense of purpose.

Reed noticed a complete culture change upon his arrival in Santa Clara, describing an “upbeat and positive” atmosphere in the facility. It has influenced his drive and desire to live up to the standards of the team.
“It’s the most fun I’ve had playing football ever,” Reed said. “Honestly. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t play all last season or what, but since I’ve been out there, I’ve been having a blast and I’m really grateful.”
