Kirk Cousins wants to play for Washington his entire career

Washington drafted Kirk Cousins in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2012 draft.

After starting just nine games combined over his first three years in the NFL, Cousins started all 32 games over the last two seasons.

“I would love to be ... a (name of Washington's mascot) the rest of my career,” Cousins told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio. “When you look at the best of the best, those quarterbacks played with one team. And if you point to a couple guys who didn’t, who changed teams, it really was against their will.

"I think if Joe Montana or Peyton Manning had their way they would have stayed where they had won Super Bowls and played so well. They wouldn’t have played so well.

"So my desire is to stay with one team my entire career, and that would be Washington.”

49ers fans probably aren't thrilled with this.

Ever since Kyle Shanahan became the team's head coach, the 49ers have been connected to the Pro Bowl quarterback.

Cousins will play under the franchise tag -- $23.94 million -- for the second straight year, and cannot sign an extension with Washington until after the regular season.

If Cousins does hit free agency, the 49ers certainly have plenty of money to spend...
