Kyle Williams tears ACL, out for remainder of season

Wide receiver Kyle Williams sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sunday, a source told CSNBayArea.com. Williams later confirmed the season-ending injury on Twitter.

After two turnovers on punts in the NFC championship game loss to the New York Giants, Williams rebounded with a strong offseason to earn a prominent role with the team this season.Williams was used as a slot receiver when the 49ers went with three wide receivers. He caught 14 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown. Hunter is also expected to miss some time with a left ankle sprain. Injuries to Williams and Hunter could open the door for the 49ers' top two draft picks, receiver A.J. Jenkins and running back LaMichael James, to make their season debuts.
