The NFL fined 49ers safety Jimmie Ward $24,309 for a play on which he was penalized for unnecessary roughness last Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams, according to a league spokesman.

Also, 49ers linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong was fined $18,231 for a horse-collar tackle in the same game.

Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald was not fined for a roughing-the-passer penalty that was called on him for his post-pass hit on 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer.

Ward was penalized for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Rams receiver Robert Woods shortly after he made a catch inside the 5-yard line on a quick slant late in the second quarter.

Armstrong’s horse-collar tackle came against Rams receiver Tavon Austin on an end-around in the third quarter.
