Cornerback Perrish Cox, whom the 49ers signed in March shortly after he was acquitted on two counts of sexual assault, will not receive any punishment from the NFL."(There is) no basis for discipline," NFL senior vice president of communications Greg Aiello told CSNBayArea.com on Friday.Under the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy, Cox could have been subject to discipline.The policy states, "It is not enough simply to avoid being found guilty of a crime. Instead, as an employee of the NFL or a member club, you are held to a higher standard and expected to conduct yourself in a way that is responsible, promotes the values upon which the League is based, and is lawful."The Sacramento Bee, citing a "league source," first reported Cox would not face a suspension.Cox, who has missed the past two practices with a leg injury, is expected to make the 49ers' 53-man roster as one of the team's top five cornerbacks."He's doing well at nickel, he's doing well at corner," 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said this week. "He's going to factor into our plans somehow, someway."A fifth-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2010, Cox appeared in 15 games with nine starts as a rookie. Ed Donatell, the 49ers' defensive backs coach, was on the Broncos staff. The Broncos released Cox prior to his second NFL season, and he did not play last season.
