Scot McCloughan is back in the NFL.

Nearly a year after being fired as GM of Washington, the former 49ers' general manager has been hired by the Cleveland Browns as a personnel consultant to help with the upcoming NFL Draft, according to ESPN.

McCloughan served as the 49ers' VP of Player Personnel from 2005 through 2007 and GM from 2008 through 2009.

Since being fired by Washington last March, McCloughan has been running a scouting agency, according to the report.

Back in 2005, McCloughan and new head coach Mike Nolan took quarterback Alex Smith with the No. 1 overall pick. Now, in his new role, he could play a part in the Browns using the top pick on a franchise-altering quarterback. Cleveland holds the No. 1 and No. 4 picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
