Rookie Smith, veteran Gore up for NFL honors

After a slow start to his season, Frank Gore is starting to roll. Without a 100-yard effort in his first three games of the season, Gore has rattled off three straight 100 yard rushing games, his most recent a huge 141-yard effort, which included a touchdown, in San Francisco's 25-19 win in Detroit.

For his performance, the NFL has nominated Frank Gore for the Fedex Ground player of the Week Award. You can vote on NFL.com here. Rookie linebacker Aldon Smith didn't register a tackle in the first two games of his career in San Francisco, but the outside pass-rusher from Missouri seems to be coming into his own. He's piled up 5.5 sacks in his last three games, including two (one for a safety) in San Francisco's win in Detroit. Smith also had a pass defensed and a forced fumble to go along with four tackles. For his performance, the NFL has nominated Aldon Smith for the league's Pepsi Rookie of the Week Award for Week 6. You can vote on NFL.com here.
