The NFL levied a 7,500 fine against a Seattle Seahawks player for his part of the sandwich hit Saturday that left the 49ers' Kyle Williams with a concussion.Former 49ers player Michael Robinson was penalized on the play, but Seahawks special-teamer Adrian Moten was fined by the NFL for unnecessary roughness, striking an opponent late. Robinson was not fined, the NFL said.
Williams slipped while attempting to make a cut on a fourth-quarter kickoff return. He was down on both knees when Robinson hit Williams from the back while Moten delivered a hit from the front.
Referee Ron Winter flagged Robinson for unnecessary roughness, saying Williams went down on his own and while Williams was on the ground Robinson hit him helmet-to-helmet.Replays showed that Robinson did not make direct helmet-to-helmet contact. However, Moten's helmet connected with Williams' chin. Williams did not practice Wednesday or Thursday due to the concussion.Coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday that it was not a clean play."Kyle had given himself up," he said. "Should have been tagged off on him."UPDATE (1:30 p.m.)
Right tackle Anthony Davis was fined 10,000 for unnecessary roughness on Seattle defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove on a play in which Kendall Hunter gained 24 yards. "While blocking an opponent, he (Davis) unnecessarily rolled up on the back of his leg," the league said. Also, Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman was fined 15,000 for a horse-collar tackle on Frank Gore.
