Are the New York Yankees for sale?

From Comcast SportsNet
NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees say they aren't for sale. The Daily News reported Thursday that there were rumors in Major League Baseball and New York banking circles that the Steinbrenner family "is exploring the possibility of selling the Yankees." Not so, says Yankees managing partner Hal Steinbrenner. "It is pure fiction," he said. "The Yankees are not for sale. I expect that the Yankees will be in my family for many years to come." Hal's father, George Steinbrenner, headed a group that bought the Yankees from CBS Inc. in 1973 for about 8.7 million net. The elder Steinbrenner died two years ago. Yankees president Randy Levine also says the team is not for sale and that, "we have not told anyone or indicated to anyone that it's for sale." Franchise values have been given new focus since the Los Angeles Dodgers sold on May 1 for 2 billion. In order to disclose financial records to potential investors, the Yankees would need to notify the commissioner's office. "Major League Baseball has received no indications from any representatives of the New York Yankees or anyone else that the club is for sale," the commissioner's office said in a statement. If the Yankees ever do go on the market, one bidder to count out is Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "I have front row tickets which cost a fortune," Bloomberg joked to reporters. "That's as much as I can afford."

Nuggets head coach Michael Malone suspended for game against Kings

Michael Malone won't be on the sideline when his Nuggets take on his former team on Monday night.

The NBA announced Monday afternoon that Malone has been suspended without pay for the game against the Kings.

The suspension stems from Malone "entering the court, halting play and making contact with a game official" during Denver's game against the Lakers on Sunday. The incident occurred midway through the second quarter.

Malone was hired as head coach of the Kings prior to the 2013-14 season. He was fired just 24 games into the 2014-15 season.

Coverage of the Nuggets and Kings gets underway at 6:30pm on NBC Sports California and streaming on the NBC Sports App.

49ers claim former Jaguars defensive lineman off waivers

The San Francisco 49ers' defensive line will have a new member coming off of the bye week.

The 49ers claimed defensive lineman Sheldon Day of waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday. The Jaguars waived Day on Saturday in order to make room for the return of rookie wide receiver Dede Westbrook off of injured reserve.

Day, a 2016 fourth round pick, posted 11 tackles and two tackles in 22 games over the last two seasons with Jacksonville. He played fewer than 30 snaps in all seven games with the Jaguars this season.

Defensive lineman Arik Armstead, defensive tackle Tank Carradine, and defensive tackle Chris Jones are all on injured reserve, while defensive lineman Aaron Lynch missed the 49ers' last game in Week 10.

San Francisco ranks 22nd in the league in sacks, 23rd in pass defense, and 31st in rush defense.
