The Oakland A's agreed to terms with manager Bob Melvin on a one-year contract extension through the 2019 season, the club announced today. His most recent extension was set to expire at the end of the 2018 season.

Melvin has compiled a 535-532 (.501) record in six-plus seasons since being named interim manager June 9, 2011. Earlier this season, the Bay Area native became the 64th manager in Major League history with 1,000 wins, and also won his 500th game with the A’s. His 535 wins are the third most in Oakland history behind Tony La Russa (798) and Art Howe (600). In his career, he is 1028-1040 in 14 seasons with Seattle (2003-04), Arizona (2005-09) and the A's (2011-present).

Melvin is one of seven managers in history to win the Manager of the Year award in both leagues, having earned the honor in 2007 with Arizona and 2012 with the A’s. He led the A's to three consecutive postseason appearances from 2012-14, including back-to-back American League West titles in 2012 and 2013 to become the first manager to lead the A's to consecutive division titles since Tony La Russa won three straight from 1988-90.

He signed a three-year contract through the 2014 season on Sept. 21, 2011, a two-year extension through 2016 on Jan. 14, 2013, and another two-year extension through 2018 on Sept. 9, 2015. He is the 30th manager in franchise history and the 18th in Oakland history.
