McCarthy shows improvement, wife optimistic

A's right-handed starter Brandon McCarthy remains in the hospital after sustaining a horrific injury that ended his season, but there may be reason to be hopeful in his recovery.

Amanda McCarthy, Brandon's wife, seems hopeful. At least that's what her Twitter account would indicate. On Monday she tweeted that her husband stood and walked for the first time since his surgery:
First walk!! Success- Amanda McCarthy (@Mrs_McCarthy32) September 10, 2012
For someone supporting a loved one through such a trying ordeal, Mrs. McCarthy is staying ever positive, responding with a great amount of grace and even a bit of humor during her stay in the hospital with her husband:
My eye is still twitching.. How annoyed will the nurse be if I call her in the take a look at it? Amanda McCarthy (@Mrs_McCarthy32) September 10, 2012
McCarthy was 8-6 with a 3.24 ERA before he sustained a skull fracture on Sept. 5, after taking a line-drive to the head.
