‘Moneyball' nominated for six Academy Awards

Moneyball, the movie abut Billy Beane's 2002 small-budget but overachieving Oakland A's, has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, it was announced this morning.Brad Pitt, who portrayed Beane, was given a nomination for best actor. Jonah Hill, who played Beane's right-hand man Paul DePodesta, garnered a nomination for best supporting actor. Moneyball was also nominated for best adapted screenplay, best sound mixing and best film editing.The 84th Academy Awards will be held on Feb. 26 in Hollywood.Moneyball the movie was adapted from Michael Lewis' book of the same name.MLB.com is reporting the six nominations for Moneyball are the most for any baseball movie since The Pride of Yankees received 11 in 1943.Moneyball was also nominated for four Golden Globe Awards -- Best picture, best actor, best supporting actor and best screenplay, but the movie did not win in any of the categories.
