While Kurt Suzuki became a household name for A's fans, the player acquired in exchange from the Washington Nationals is relatively unknown. Who is David Freitas?

Freitas, born in Wilton, CA, graduated from Elk Grove High School and spent two years at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, where he was named an All-American and earned team MVP honors.

Freitas left the Sacramento area to play baseball for the University of Hawaii.

The Nationals drafted the six-foot-three catcher in the 2010 draft, and Freitas signed that June.

Freitas, 23, played 23 games with the High-A Potomac Nationals this year, posting a .271 batting average with five home runs and 46 RBIs.

According to BaseballAmerica.com, his .780 OPS is second best among catchers in the league.

By all accounts, Freitas is not speedy, but he has thrown out 33 of players attempting to steal against him. Minorleagueball.com ranked Freitas as the Nationals' 13th best prospect, citing his lack of errors and the amount of walks he draws as reasons for his C grade.
