(APCSN) Federal prosecutors are due in court Thursday to discuss whether to schedule another perjury trial for Barry Bonds.A jury convicted Bonds of obstruction of justice April 13. The jury deadlocked on three counts charging the home run king lied to a grand jury about performance-enhancing drug use.Prosecutors must decide whether to drop those charges or schedule a new trial.Meanwhile, Bonds' attorneys have asked U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston to acquit Bonds of the obstruction conviction or toss it out and hold another trial on that count. They argue Bonds was wrongly convicted of obstructing a grand jury because he gave a rambling answer about being a child of a celebrity when asked about injecting steroids.REWIND: Bonds to ask for new trial or acquittal
The judge will decide that issue later.Bonds holds the single-season home run record with 73 in 2001, and he is the all-time home run king with 762 career home runs.
