Giants outfielder Carlos Beltran received a cortisone shot in his right wrist Wednesday and is unlikely to play Friday when the Giants open a 10-game road trip in Florida.

San Francisco GM Brian Sabean told Comcast SportsNet Bay Area's Mychael Urban via text message that he "still holds hope that (Beltran) will play this weekend."

Giants manager Bruce Bochy spoke to KNBR radio about Beltran's status and expressed optimism that the slugger could play Saturday. Beltran tried to swing a bat Wednesday but it hurt him to do so.

Beltran injured the wrist swinging the bat on Sunday and was forced to leave the game an inning later. Bochy acknowledged on Wednesday that the disabled list could be a possibility if Beltran doesn't improve.

"I would certainly hope not," Bochy said Wednesday when asked about Beltran being placed on the 15-day DL.

"We don't think so. We're going to do what we can not to let that happen. But again, Friday when we'll check on him and evaluate him, that will help that decision."

Since being acquired in a trade with the Mets, Beltran has appeared in 11 games, batting .244 with a double, two triples and two RBIs.
