UPDATED -- 2:40 p.m.: The Giants placed catcher Eli Whiteside on the 7-day DL, a time period designated specifically for concussions, and called up Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Fresno.

Whiteside sustained abrasions on his face and reportedly felt some dizziness after his head slammed into the first in front of second base on Wednesday.

UPDATED -- 1:40 p.m.: According to the San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea, who is traveling with the Giants in Houston, Hector Sanchez will be in uniform Friday night against the Astros. Catcher Eli Whiteside will be placed on the 7-day DL, which is a new category specifically for concussion-related injuries.

The Giants could be making another roster move, according to a report on Twitter. San Jose Mercury news beat writer Andrew Baggarly indicated that catcher Hector Sanchez was traveling to join the team in Houston.

Sanchez is batting .283 in 88 games with the Triple-A Grizzlies this season. He has nine home runs and 72 RBI in 329 at-bats. He made his big league debut as a pinch-hitter on July 15, walking in the ninth inning of San Francisco's 6-1 win at San Diego.

He was sent down on July 19.

Eli Whiteside, who left Wednesday's game after hitting his head while sliding into second base, had "some blurry vision" after the incident, according to Giants manager Bruce Bochy. Whiteside did not play Thursday, as Chris Stewart made up the battery with Tim Lincecum.
