After losing starting job, slim Sandoval shows up early for Red Sox

Entering the second season of his five-year, $95 million contract with the Red Sox last year, Pablo Sandoval showed up overweight to spring training, lost his starting job to Travis Shaw, and played just three games before shoulder surgery ended his 2016 season.

A year later, things are a little different. Sandoval arrived at the Red Sox camp in Fort Myers, Florida, on Thursday -- a full eight days before position players are set to report. 

Sandoval, 30, spent his first seven MLB seasons with the Giants. Twice an All-Star and three times a World Series champ, Sandoval hit .294 with 106 home runs in San Francisco.

Based on a number of photos tweeted out on Thursday, the former Giants third baseman is looking trim.
