Giants catcher Buster Posey is this year's National League batting champion after closing the season on a torrid pace to pass Andrew McCutchen for the honor.
Posey finished the year 178-for-530 (.33585), passing McCutchen in the final week of the season. McCutchen was 194-for-593 (.32715).
Teammate Melky Cabrera had a .346 average (159-for-459) when he was suspended 50 games for violating MLB's drug policy. He was one at-bat short of qualifying for the batting title, but league rules would have been allowed to take an 0-for-1 in the final at-bat and still win the title. Cabrera forfeited the honor when he lobbied Commissioner Bud Selig to have the rule waived for suspended players, which the league agreed to in this isolated case.

Posey's campaign netted a career-high 24 home runs, 39 doubles, 103 RBIs and 78 runs, and it has him in the running for the NL MVP.
