Pence makes running catch
Jon Jay hit a fly ball to deep right in the bottom of the first inning, but Hunter Pence raced back and made the running catch just in front of the wall.
Carpenter tags Peavy
The Cardinals got on the board first in the bottom of the third with a solo home run by Matt Carpenter off of Jake Peavy.
Grichuk increases Cards' lead
The Cardinals knocked Jake Peavy around in the bottom of the fourth inning, loading the bases with one out. Rookie right fielder Randal Grichuk singled to left to drive in Matt Adams, giving St. Louis a 2-0 lead.
Jay can't hold on
The Giants' fifth inning rally started with a Brandon Belt single. After Brandon Crawford popped out, Travis Ishikawa lined a ball to center. Cardinals center field Jon Jay made a diving attempt and had the ball in his glove. But when he hit the ground, the ball popped out. Belt made it to third and Ishikawa had a double.
Giants get on the board
With runners on second and third, Bruce Bochy sent Joaquin Arias up to pinch hit for Jake Peavy and he grounded out to second, allowing Brandon Belt to score from third, cutting the Cardinals lead to 2-1.
Peavy out after four
Giants starter Jake Peavy labored through four innings against the Cardinals. With a chance to score in the top of the fifth, Bruce Bochy lifted him for a pinch hitter. Peavy's final line: 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 76 pitches.
Pence knocks in Pablo
Pablo Sandoval doubled with two outs in the top of the sixth and scored the tying run on a Hunter Pence single to center.
Lynn can't hold lead
Cardinals starter Lance Lynn was unable to protect a two-run lead. Lynn's final line: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 98 pitches.
Cardinals lose Molina
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina left Game 2 after he hit into a double play in the bottom of the sixth inning. As soon as he hit the ball, he was in immediate pain and barely made it out of the batter's box. The Cardinals announced that he left with a strained left oblique.
Blanco gives Giants the lead
With runners on second and third in the top of the seventh, Gregor Blanco singled to right driving in Brandon Crawford to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.
Taveras takes Machi deep
The Giants' lead didn't last long as Cardinals' rookie Oscar Taveras hit a pinch-hit solo home run down the right field line that stayed fair by a few feet.
Strickland burned again
With the game tied 3-3, Hunter Strickland gave another postseason home run. This time, Matt Adams took the rookie deep, giving the Cardinals a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning.
Duffy scores to tie Game 2
With the Cardinals leading 4-3 in the top of the ninth, closer Trevor Rosenthal uncorked a wild pitch on ball four to Joe Panik. Pinch runner Matt Duffy scored all the way from second base to pull the Giants even 4-4.
Wong hits walk-off
After the Giants tied Game 2 in the top of the ninth inning, Kolten Wong led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk-off home run off of Sergio Romo to give the Cardinals a 5-4 win.
