Game 4 lineups: Theriot at DH, Laird replaces Avila

Managers Bruce Bochy and Jim Leyland have announced their lineups for Game 4 of the World Series between the Giants and Tigers.

After Hector Sanchez went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as DH in Game 3, Bochy said he went with Ryan Theriot because of his contact skills going up against a power pitcher in Max Scherzer, who has struck out 18 in 11 postseason innings.

Even though right-handers hit .201 against Scherzer and lefties were .292 in the regular season, Bochy said he liked Theriot's at-bats against right-handers and he clearly has little faith in Sanchez or Aubrey Huff.

Also, Bochy said he would check with Tim Lincecum in batting practice but would prefer to stay away from using him in Game 4.

"This is a little uncharted territory the way we're using him," Bochy said.
