Melky Cabrera's suspension left the Giants with a hole in the outfield. The team will promote Justin Christian from Triple-A to fill that void, GM Brian Sabean announced on a conference call Thursday.

To replace relief pitcher Dan Otero, who was called up on Tuesday and sent back to the minors on Wednesday, the team will promote right-handed pitcher Eric Hacker.

"Weve got Hacker on the way and Christian will be called up," Sabean announced.

Christian, 32, has played in 22 games with the Giants this season. He is 6-for-38 (.158) with six runs and one RBI. He has stolen two bases and been caught once.

Christian's latest stint in the majors ended when he was sent down on Aug. 1.

Hacker, 29, made a spot start for the Giants on April 27. He pitched six innings against the San Diego Padres, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out seven and walking two.

He was sent back to the minors after the start.
