The Giants have agreed to a trade with the New York Mets toacquire outfielder Angel Pagan for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez. The deal will be finalized pending physicals.Pagan, 30, hit .262 with 32 steals and a .322 on-base percentage in 2011 after having a career year in 2010with a .290 average, .340 OBP, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs and 37 steals.A right-handed thrower and a switch-hitter, Pagan played all 121 of his games last season in center field.
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News first reported on CSN's Hot Stove show that the Giants were close to completing the deal.When reached for comment, Giants senior director of media relations Jim Moorehead said the team had nothing to announce Tuesday night. However, the Giants' official website lists news of the trade.
Like Torres and Ramirez, Pagan is arbitration eligible. He earned 3.5 million with the Mets last season.
Torres, 33, hit just .221 in limited playing time in 2011, just a season after being a staple at the top of the 2010 World Champion Giants' lineup, hitting .268 with a .343 on-base percentage, 16 home runs and 26 stolen bases."I'm really positive and confident but I will never forget San Francisco fans," Torres told CSN's Jaymee Sire via text message. "A lot of beautiful moments."
Ramirez, 30, was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Boston Red Sox in 2010. He went 4-3 with a 2.07 ERA in 91 games with the Giants over a season and a half.
