All three Giants' outs in the top of the first inning came on fly balls, and Denard Span had to make a leaping catch at the wall in center field to retire Joe Panik.
Giants win challenge
In the top of the third inning, with Travis Ishikawa at first base, Jake Peavy laid down a bunt. Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche fielded the bunt and tried to throw out Ishikawa at second. The initial ruling on the field was that the throw beat Ishikawa. But the Giants challenged the call and replay showed that the runner was safe.
Panik delivers first run of game
After a wild pitch allowed Travis Ishikawa and Jake Peavy to move up to third and second, respectively, Joe Panik singled to center to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.

Giants take up 2-0 lead
Hunter Pence reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the fourth inning and stole second base. Then Brandon Belt singled to right and Pence raced around and scored, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead on Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals.

Giants turn spectacular double play
After Bryce Harper got the Nationals' first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, Wilson Ramos grounded a ball up the middle. Joe Panik fielded it and flip to Brandon Crawford, who stepped on second, jumped over a sliding Harper and made the throw to first base to complete the double play.
Giants knock Strasburg out
The Giants knocked Stephen Strasburg out of the game after Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford led off the sixth with back-to-back singles. Strasburg's final line: 6+ IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K.
Peavy goes 5.2
Jake Peavy went 5.2 innings in Game 1 against the Nationals. He left the game with runners on first and second. Javier Lopez walked Adam LaRoche to load the bases, but rookie Hunter Strickland came in and struck out Ian Desmond to end the sixth inning.
Harper hits moon shot
The Giants left Strickland in to face Bryce Harper to lead off the bottom of the seventh and the Nationals' left fielder made the rookie pay, hitting a solo home run into the third deck to cut the Giants lead to 3-1.
Cabrera cuts into Giants lead
After Wilson Ramos struck out, Asdrubal Cabrera hit another solo home run off Strickland to make it 3-2 Giants in the bottom of the seventh.
Giants steal Game 1 in Washington
Sergio Romo gave up two hits in the eighth but pitched out of it, while Santiago Casilla pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure the Giants' 3-2 win over the Nationals in Game 1 of the NLDS.
