Giants ride Bumgarner to 3-0 win in Game 1 of NLCS
Giants score first
The Giants plated two runs in the top of the second inning on Saturday. Pablo Sandoval led off with a double that popped out of Randal Grichuk's glove as he crashed into the wall. Hunter Pence walked, Brandon Belt singled, Brandon Crawford struck out and then Travis Ishikawa blooped a single down the left field line to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.
Giants score on Cards' error
After Ishikawa's RBI single, Madison Bumgarner lined out to shortstop. Leadoff hitter Gregor Blanco grounded a ball to Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter, who misplayed the ball, allowing Hunter Pence to score the Giants' second run of the inning.
Giants keep adding on
Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval started the third inning with back-to-back singles. Hunter Pence grounded into a fielder's choice, forcing Sandoval out at second. The next batter, Brandon Belt drove Posey in with a sacrifice fly to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.
Giants knock Wainwright out
Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright was knocked around by the Giants on Saturday night and manager Mike Matheny had to pull him with two outs in the fifth inning. Wainwright's final line: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 98 pitches.
Bumgarner makes the play
With one out in the bottom of the seventh and runners on first and second, Kolten Wong grounded to first base. Brandon Belt fielded the ball and flipped it to Madison Bumgarner, who tagged Wong before he could reach first base.
Madison Bumgarner baffled the Cardinals hitters in Game 1 of the NLCS. The Giants lefty allowed zero runs and just four hits, striking out seven in 7.2 innings pitched.
Giants take Game 1
Sergio Romo got the final out of the eighth and Santiago Casilla pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure the Giants' 3-0 win over the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLCS. Game 2 on Sunday will feature Jake Peavy vs. Lance Lynn. First pitch is scheduled for 5:07 p.m. PST.
