Giants score early, ride Bumgarner to Game 1 win
Sandoval gets Giants on scoreboard
Gregor Blanco got Game 1 started with a single to center. He moved to second on a sacrifice fly by Joe Panik. Buster Posey singled, moving Blanco to third. Pablo Sandoval doubled into the right field corner to plate Blanco, but Posey was thrown out trying to score from first.
Pence goes deep
Hunter Pence gave the Giants a 3-0 lead with a line drive two-run home run to center field.
Giants add on in fourth
After Madison Bumgarner got out of a bases-loaded jam in the third, Hunter Pence led off the fourth with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Brandon Belt walked and Michael Morse singled to center to drive in Pence.
Shields knocked out
Big Game James Shields didn't have it in Game 1. He failed to record an out in the fourth inning and was pulled by Royals manager Ned Yost with runners on first and second. Shields' final line: 3+ IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 Er, 1 BB, 1 K, 71 pitches.
Giants go up 5-0
Danny Duffy relieved Shields and Juan Perez sacrificed Belt and Morse to second and third. Brandon Crawford walked to load the bases and Gregor Blanco drew another walk to force in a run, giving the Giants a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Panik triples in run
After Gregor Blanco led off the seventh with a walk, Joe Panik tripled to right to give the Giants a 6-0 lead.
Sandoval picks up another RBI
Pablo Sandoval knocked in Panik with a single to left off of Royals reliever Tim Collins to give the Giants a 7-0 lead.
Perez's homers off of Bumgarner
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Royals catcher Salvador Perez homered off of Madison Bumgarner, the first run the Giants' starter has given up in three World Series starts.
