Lincecum regrets not being an All-Star

WASHINGTONTim Lincecum isnt sure how hell spend his All-Star break, other than hell be home in Seattle.

Its the first time he hasnt been named to the NL squad since he was a rookie, in 2007.

He is not relieved to take a break from baseball.

It definitely makes meI definitely want to be there, Lincecum told me. Its one thing to feel deserving. Its another to know what you need to do to get there. There are so many guys in here who are deserving.

It didnt need to be said: Lincecum is not.

He is 3-8. His 5.60 ERA ranks 116th out of 127 major league pitchers to throw at least 80 innings. His team lost 10 consecutive games with him on the mound.

The Giants are in the odd position of sending four All-Stars but just one pitcher, Matt Cain, from a rotation that is the undisputed strength of the team.

Lincecum cannot change any of those things. He can only take his streak of 12 consecutive scoreless innings, be grateful hes pitching for a first-place club and try to be the ace he knows he can and should be over the second half of the season.

Theres no use looking back at a first half that was decidedly starless.

Those are the cards that got dealt this year, he said.
