Report: Cain to start All-Star Game

Giants pitcher Matt Cain, who authored the franchise's first-ever perfect game on June 13, has been selected as the starting pitcher for the National League in Tuesday's All Star game in Kansas City according to a national report. John Harper of the NY Daily news first tweeted this Monday morning: Source says Dickey is not starting All-Star game. Will be Cain vs. Verlander. John Harper (@NYDNHarper) July 9, 2012Cain, 27, is 9-3 with a 2.62 ERA for San Francisco this season. His perfect game came against the Houston Astros in the Giants' 10-0 win. This is Cain's third selection to the All Star Game, and first ever start. He also was selected to the Midsummer Classic in 2009 and 2011.

According to Harper's tweet, the Giants right-hander will be opposed by Detroit's Justin Verlander. Verlander, 29, is 9-5 with a 2.58 ERA.
