The Giants are in the market for an outfielder.

San Francisco and Detroit recently discussed a trade surrounding J.D. Martinez, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

The talks reportedly took place last week at the MLB GM Meetings in Phoenix.

According to the report, the negotiations have not yet advanced beyond the initial stage.

Martinez hit .307 with 22 home runs and 68 RBI last season, while starting 118 games in right field.

He batted .282 with 38 home runs and 102 RBI in 2015 and was an All-Star for the first time.

The 29-year old is scheduled to make just under $12 million in 2017, and is slated to become a free agent in 2018.
