Sandoval leaves early with hamstring strain

Share

Pablo Sandoval left Tuesdays game between the Giants and Padres with a left hamstring strain.

He sustained the injury while doing the splits to complete a spectacular double play. With a man on first and one out in the top of the third inning, San Diegos Carlos Quentin roped a sharp ground ball to Ryan Theriot, who had to drop to his knees to field it. Theriot then fed Crawford, who leaped over the baserunner to complete a low relay throw to Sandoval.
Normally the starting third baseman, Sandoval is at first because of Brandon Belts slump, but looked like a natural digging out Crawfords throw while stretching to do the splits. In a 2-2 game, Belt replaced Sandoval in the batting order in the bottom of the third and struck out with runners at second and third and two outs.He then took over at first base in the top of the fourth.Sandoval doubled to deep right-center field in the first inning to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.
