Span removed from game vs Rockies with apparent right shoulder injury

DENVER -- The injuries keep coming for the Giants.

Denard Span was removed in the third inning Saturday night after apparently hurting his right shoulder while making a running catch at the wall. Span robbed Charlie Blackmon of at least an RBI double, but he slammed right into the wall in center and he came up slow.

Span walked all the way back to the dugout. Gorkys Hernandez ran over from right field and picked up Span's hat from the warning track. As he passed third base coach Phil Nevin, Span grimaced and pointed to his right shoulder. Conor Gillaspie pinch-hit for Span in the top of the third.

The Giants lost Jarrett Parker on a similar play last weekend at home and Madison Bumgarner was lost this week after a dirt bike accident. Hunter Pence was out of Saturday's starting lineup because of a left knee bruise, but he is expected to play Sunday. Pence initially grabbed a bat when Span went back to the clubhouse, but Gillaspie was ultimately sent up to hit.

Span is hitting .200 through 14 games.
