ALAMEDA -- Trevor Scott seemed to carve a niche last season as the Raiders elephant linebacker, a pass-rushing weakside linebacker in Oaklands 4-3 scheme.
Which is why his moving back to right defensive end (his natural position coming out of college) on the eve of the season opener was so surprising. Now, with a hamstring injury to Quentin Groves, Scott is back at outside linebacker heading into Sundays game against San Diego.

Kind of just like riding a bike, Scott told reporters Friday. I havent played there in over a month now, but its not like it ever got away from me. Even though I was playing D-end, I was still paying attention to what the linebackers were doing. (Im) just kind of picking up where I left off.
Scott has tied for the team lead in sacks the past two seasons -- five in 2008, with Kalimba Edwards; and seven last season with Greg Ellis.
Defensive coordinator John Marshall has said switching Scott back and forth has nothing to do with performance. Its about, hes claimed, getting the best 11 players on the field at the same time. Its about combinations and
Until we get our guys back healthy, Marshall said. So thats part of the flexibility that we have, and thank God we have that, (so) yeah, I guess youd say temporary until we get the guys back well.

Besides, the move may spark Scott as a pass-rusher again. The Raiders have seven sacks in four games. Scott has none.
