The Kings have offered a four-year contract worth 20 million to defensive-minded big man Chuck Hayes, according to a report by ESPN.com.
The report indicates the team expects Hayes to sign, and Hayes' agent, Calvin Andrews did not refute, saying "he's close to gone from Houston. Not gone. Close."
Hayes, a free agent, has spent his entire six-year career with the Rockets. He is coming off his best season in which he averaged 7.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, .7 blocks and 28.1 minutes per game, all career highs.

Hayes, 28, grew up in Modesto, 80 miles south of Sacramento on Interstate 5.
The undersized but over-aggressive big man earned the job of matching up against opposing teams' centers, and he would likely resume the same role in Sacramento. He would join fellow Kentucky-graduate DeMarcus Cousins, newly-acquired J.J. Hickson and Jason Thompson in a crowded Kings frontcourt.
